OGC Nice coach Franck Haise has confirmed that Jonathan Clauss would like to depart the club before the transfer window closes.
“Jonathan wants to leave because he has a good offer. We want him to stay,” the 54-year-old coach said at a press conference. “He may still be here on 2 September. If he’s not here, it’s because there will be an offer that satisfies all parties. But he will have to be replaced.”
Absent from training today and very uncertain for Saturday’s home game against Auxerre, Clauss is reportedly being targeted by Bayer Leverkusen. Although no agreement has been reached yet, the situation could well be resolved in the coming days, as the French international (14 caps) has entered the final year of his contract.
The 32-year-old right-back (33 in September) has made 38 appearances in all competitions in 2024-25, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists. He has also started in the first three games of the season for Les Aiglons.
In addition to Clauss, Leverkusen, who have already spent more than €110m this summer, are also said to be interested in AS Monaco‘s Moroccan attacking midfielder Eliesse Ben Seghir.
