Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his desire to establish himself as a lasting presence on the Olympique de Marseille bench.
“I see myself here for the long term,” he said at a press conference. “I would like to exceed three years (the length of his contract) and become one of the most important coaches in the history of Olympique de Marseille.”
Inducted in June 2024, after two seasons at Brighton, De Zerbi capped off his first campaign in France with a second-place finish in Ligue 1, securing direct qualification for the Champions League group stage.
“I feel good, even when faced with criticism or noise. I’m not someone who gets offended easily. I’d like to stay here for a long time, if that suits everyone, of course, the club, the management. It’s a privilege to work here,” he agreed.
“There are many difficulties, pressures, and expectations that we can’t always meet, but we always try to repay the fans for what they give us. I think we have the team to do everything this season. And it’s up to you to define what ‘everything’ means.”
Currently third in the league, OM have the opportunity to retake the lead tomorrow evening with a win away at Lille. An important match just a few days before a crucial encounter against Union Saint-Gilloise, which could see them move closer to qualifying for the Champions League play-offs.
