Argentina will begin their title defence against Algeria at the 2026 World Cup. Lionel Messi’s teammates will then take on Austria and Jordan. France, the unfortunate runners-up in 2022, have been drawn in a particularly tough group alongside Senegal, Norway and the winner of the mini-play-off tournament between Iraq, Bolivia and Suriname.

Mexico, Canada and the United States, the three host countries, will each find out their final group opponents after the European play-offs.

The tournament’s opening game will see Mexico face South Africa in Mexico City on 11th June.

The full draw is as follows:

  • Group A: Mexico (hosts), South Africa, South Korea, Denmark/North Macedonia/Czech Republic/Republic of Ireland
  • Group B: Canada (hosts), Italy/Northern Ireland/Wales/Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, Switzerland
  • Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland
  • Group D: United States (hosts), Paraguay, Australia, Turkey/Romania/Slovakia/Kosovo
  • Group E: Germany, Curacao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador
  • Group F: Netherlands, Japan, Ukraine/Sweden/Poland/Albania, Tunisia
  • Group G: Belgium, Egypt, IR Iran, New Zealand
