Inzaghi has taken Inter Milan to new heights despite financial struggles, yet his efforts often go unnoticed. With the Champions League final approaching, it’s time to give credit where it’s due.

Simone Inzaghi has quietly built something extraordinary at Inter Milan, but few are talking about it. While his brother Filippo recently earned promotion to Serie A with Pisa, Simone has led Inter to their second Champions League final in three years—a remarkable achievement considering the obstacles he’s faced.

Taking over from Antonio Conte in 2021, Inzaghi was tasked with the impossible: replacing the coach who had just ended Inter’s 11-year Serie A title drought. On top of that, the club’s financial mismanagement meant that key players like Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi had to be sold. Inzaghi had just $50 million to spend that summer, but he made it count by signing smart players like Denzel Dumfries, Matteo Darmian, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu—none of whom cost more than $10 million.

Despite the financial burden of a massive $275 million loan, Inter has managed to turn a profit in the transfer market over the past four years, and Inzaghi has been the mastermind behind their continued success.

Clever Signings to Build a Stronger Squad

Through shrewd signings and tactical flexibility, Inzaghi has built a squad that looks even stronger now than it did for last year’s Champions League final against Manchester City. While several key players have departed—including Andre Onana, Milan Skriniar, and Romelu Lukaku—Inzaghi has seamlessly integrated new faces. In their decisive win over Barcelona to reach this year’s final, seven of the starting players were signed by Inzaghi, with just one costing over $10 million.

Tactical Brilliance in the 3-5-2 System

Despite the club’s on-pitch success, Inzaghi has remained under the radar, often overshadowed by flashier names in European football. His tactical brilliance is evident in Inter’s fluid 3-5-2 system, which emphasizes aggressive defending, relentless midfield running, and a potent attack led by Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram. Players like Nicolo Barella, Federico Dimarco, and Denzel Dumfries complete a fearsome lineup that has the potential to dominate at the highest level.

The Champions League Final: A Defining Moment for Inzaghi

This Champions League final against PSG is more than just a game—it could define Inzaghi’s legacy. A win would cement his status as an Inter legend, and the world would finally recognize his genius. Even in defeat, Inzaghi’s place in Inter’s history is secure, but the perception of his managerial prowess on the continental stage would be forever in question.

Time to Give Inzaghi the Recognition He Deserves
