Paul Pogba is among the 22 players called up by Sebastien Pocognoli for Monaco’s trip to Rennes on Saturday. Out of action since 3 September 2023 due to a doping suspension, the French international midfielder, who moved to Ligue 1 last summer, returned to team training in mid-August before suffering several physical setbacks that delayed his return to competition.

Initially expected to be available for the match against Angers (1-1 on 18 October), Pogba had to postpone his debut, first due to an injury to his right thigh, then to his ankle.

“During this break, he was able to test himself in real match conditions,” Pocognoli said in his pre-match press conference. “We had more time to play different types of matches and work on tactical aspects. He took part in them, which is a good sign.”

Whilst he is not expected to start the match, Pogba is nevertheless likely to make his debut for Monaco at Rhoazon Park. At the same time, he will be making his first appearance in Ligue 1, having left France at the age of 16 to join Manchester United.
