PSG captain Marquinhos, who suffered an injury to his left quadriceps, ‘will remain under treatment for the next few weeks,’ announced the club’s medical statement on Friday morning.

With the international break just ten days away, the Brazilian defender will miss Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Auxerre, as well as Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League trip to Barcelona on Wednesday. His participation in Sunday’s clash with Lille is also unlikely.

Marquinhos, 31, had played in four of PSG’s seven matches since the start of the season, opening his account against Atalanta Bergamo on the first day of the Champions League group stage. A key player for Luis Enrique last campaign, he featured in 48 matches in all competitions (scoring three goals) and helped guide his side to a historic quadruple.

PSG squad reduced in numbers ahead of Barcelona clash

Marquinhos’ absence will not be the only one Enrique will have to deal with ahead of his eagerly awaited trip to Spain for his reunion with FC Barcelona.

Ousmane Dembele, recently crowned Ballon d’Or winner, will also miss the encounter. The 28-year-old striker suffered a right thigh injury during France’s last international break and is not expected to return before mid-October.

Desire Doue, who was also injured while on international duty, remains a doubt for the trip to Catalonia. Joao Neves and Bradley Barcola, both absent from Monday’s Classique against Marseille, should be able to take part.
