Hannah Hampton has been named the best female goalkeeper of 2025, after receiving the first ever ‘Women’s Yashin Trophy’ at the 2025 Ballon d’Or award ceremony.
Hampton has enjoyed a remarkable season, both domestically and internationally. She was part of the Chelsea side that won an undefeated domestic treble, before winning EURO ’25 as England’s no.1. During the tournament, she helped England win 2 penalty shoot-outs, saving 2 penalties in the quarter-final vs Sweden, before saving 2 in the final vs Spain, for which she was award ‘player of the match’.
In her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her grandfather, as well as former Liverpool Women’s manager Matt Beard, who tragically passed away yesterday, aged 47.
The other nominees for the trophy were: Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany & Gotham FC), Cata Coll (Spain & Barcelona), Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria & Brighton & Hove Albion), and Daphne von Domselaar (Netherlands & Arsenal).
The ‘Yashin Trophy’, named after legendary U.S.S.R. goalkeeper Lev Yashin (the only goalkeeper to win the Ballon D’or), is awarded by France Football, and is voted on by selected football journalists, since its inception in 2019. This is the first year that a ‘Women’s Yashin’ category has been included as part of the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
