Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Illya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with the French capital club. A massive deal for PSG, who needed to work hard to reach an agreement with the Cherries. Indeed, the reigning European champions finally managed to persuade the English club’s management to agree to the transfer by offering a cheque worth €63 million. A significant sum, to which €3 million in bonuses could be added.
Arriving in the United Kingdom from his parent club Dynamo Kiev in the winter of 2023, the Ukrainian international (47 caps, two goals) took just a few weeks to convince Gary O’Neil of his qualities, before Andoni Iraola made him a permanent fixture in his defensive line-up. In total, Zabarnyi made 86 appearances for Bournemouth and scored one goal. He played in 36 of the 38 Premier League matches last season, only one of which was as a substitute.
Following Lucas Chevalier, whose transfer was made official on Saturday, Zabarnyi becomes Paris Saint-Germain’s second signing of the transfer window.
