PSG has confirmed the signing of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
The young international has joined the reigning European champions for the next five seasons as part of a deal worth more than €40 million. At 23, Chevalier becomes the fifth most expensive goalkeeper of all time (tied with Manchester City‘s Ederson), but also breaks the previous French record held by Sebastien Frey, whomoved from Inter Milan to Parma for €21 million in the summer of 2003.
Having made 34 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, the Calais native racked up the most clean sheets (11) and recorded a save percentage of 74.6%. Named to the Team of the Season, he was also awarded the title of Best Goalkeeper in the league.
A prize that saw him succeed Gianluigi Donnarumma, honoured a year earlier, whom he will now have the difficult task of replacing in the Parisian goal.
Chevalier also made 10 appearances in the Champions League and was one of the key players in Lille’s impressive run to the round of 16, where Les Dogues were ultimately defeated by Borussia Dortmund.
