Brentford have accepted a deal from Manchester United for winger Bryan Mbeumo in a deal reported to be worth around £71m.

Mbeumo had agreed on his contract with Manchester United weeks ago, with Old Trafford being his only preferred destination. Mbeumo’s contract at United will be valid until June 2030, with an option to extend to 2031.

Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, and lost the Europa League to Tottenham Hotspur in the Bilbao final.

As Manchester United seek to leave last season’s performances in the past, Mbeumo could be the key to improving their situation. The Cameroonian scored 20 goals for Brentford last season, and assisted 7. The winger could replace Marcus Rashford as the Englishman seeks to leave the club as soon as possible, with hopes of joining Barcelona.

Mbeumo’s impact: What he adds to Manchester United?

The green light for the deal was given on Friday with a transfer fee of £65m, with £6m in add-ons over four installments. This deal makes Mbeumo the second-most expensive African player in the world, just behind Nicolas Pepe’s transfer to Arsenal from Lille in 2019, which cost the Gunners £72 million.
