Facundo Medina has signed for Olympique de Marseille, as confirmed by the Phocaean club. The 26-year-old Argentinian leaves RC Lens for OM on a paying loan (€2m) with an option to buy (€18m). Bonuses of €2m were also included in the deal.

The central defender, named on our list of players who might spark the 2025-26 Ligue 1 summer transfer window, had been targeted by the France vice-champions for several weeks. The epilogue to a saga started last winter, when Mehdi Benatia, the club’s sporting director, had already tried to convince the player to move to the south of France.

At Marseille, Medina is set to reunite with his compatriot and future captain Leonardo Balerdi in a defence already strengthened by the free arrival of CJ Egan-Riley from Burnley.

Having arrived in France following a move from Talleres in 2020, the Villa Fiorito native quickly established himself as one of the key players in Franck Haise’s system, and later in that of Will Still.

An international with seven caps for La Albiceleste, he made a total of 165 appearances for Les Sang et Or.
