Sweden delivered a statement performance in their final Group C match at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, dismantling Germany 4-1 with a devastating display of pace, precision, and tactical execution. Despite going behind early, the Swedes responded immediately and never looked back, punishing Germany on the break and capitalizing on a first-half red card that left the tournament heavyweights reeling.

The win not only cemented Sweden’s place at the top of the group with a perfect record, but also marked Germany’s heaviest defeat in Women’s Euro history—exposing vulnerabilities in their defensive setup and leaving them with major questions heading into the quarter-finals.

UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: Day 11

Sweden stunned Germany with a devastating counter-attacking display to top Group C. Germany, exposed in transition and reduced to ten players after Wamser’s red card, couldn’t recover.

Germany’s Fast Start

Germany started brightly, with Schüller narrowly missing after just 90 seconds. They opened the scoring in the 7th minute, when Wamser raced down the right and fed Brand, who coolly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Sweden’s Rapid Response

Sweden hit back just five minutes later. After Asllani released Blackstenius down the right, the striker left Germany’s defense chasing shadows and buried her shot into the bottom corner. The game stayed wide open, with Germany trying to control possession, but Sweden looked lethal every time they countered. They took the lead on a lucky bounce when Holmberg’s cross deflected off a defender and looped in.

Wamser Sees Red

The match flipped for good in the 31st minute. Blackstenius again broke free and fed Kaneryd, who squared for Rolfö. Wamser, standing on the goal line, blocked the shot with her arm and was sent off. Rolfö converted the penalty with ease, giving Sweden a two-goal cushion and a player advantage.

Serene Swedes Cruise

With Germany down to ten, Sweden calmly managed the second half. Their control was rewarded when Janogy’s cross was cushioned down by Kaneryd for Hurtig, who finished from close range. It was the first time any team has scored four goals on Germany in Women’s EURO history. Sweden heads into the quarterfinals flying, while Germany must regroup quickly.

UEFA Women’s EURO Group B recap: Spain gets it done

Poland 3 – 2 Denmark
Goals: Padilla-Bidas (13’), Pajor (20’), Wiankowska (76’) | Thomsen (59’), Bruun (83’)

Key Stats
Poland | Denmark
Possession: 45.6% | 54.4%

Shots on Target: 7 | 8
Expected Goals (xG): 2.3 | 2.79

Poland closed out Group C with their first-ever major tournament win, thrilling over 14,000 fans despite being eliminated.

Bidas Breakthrough

Padilla-Bidas gave Poland their first goal of the tournament after a slick one-two with Kamczyk. Pajor doubled the lead seven minutes later, dispossessing a Danish defender and heading in a pinpoint cross to ignite Polish hopes.

Danish Revival Falls Short

Denmark began to press after Poland tired late in the first half. Thomsen pulled one back following a goalkeeping error, and Nadim appeared to equalize, but VAR ruled her offside. Bruun’s late header set up a nervy finish, but it was too little, too late.

Polish Shine

Wiankowska sealed the win with a rocket from the edge of the box after a flowing move. Despite elimination, Poland ended their EURO debut in style. Denmark, meanwhile, exited without a single point—just the second team to do so this tournament.
