Germany Rally, Denmark Crash Out

Germany came from behind to win and book their place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. The result also officially eliminated Denmark. The Danes took a surprise lead in the first half, but Germany responded after the break with two goals—though their winner came with a fair bit of luck.

VAR-y Unlucky First Half

Just like their previous match, Germany dominated from the start but couldn’t find the net in the first 45 minutes. Bühl appeared to have scored early, but after a long VAR check, it was ruled off due to Nüsken obstructing the goalkeeper’s view from an offside position.

In the 37th minute, Germany were awarded a penalty for handball by Thøgersen, but VAR reversed that too—determining the foul occurred just outside the box. Frustration was building in the stands.

Denmark Strike Against the Run of Play

Between those VAR moments, Denmark grabbed a shock lead. Thomsen burst forward from midfield, beating two defenders before a third tackled her. The loose ball fell to Vangsgaard, who took it wide and smashed it past the keeper at the near post.

Germany’s Comeback

Germany turned up the pressure after the break. In the 53rd minute, Dallmann was tripped in the box, and Nüsken calmly slotted home the penalty to level it.

The winner came ten minutes later in chaotic fashion. A clearance from Færge rebounded off a teammate’s face and bounced into the path of Germany’s Brand, who found Schüller in space. She finished from 12 yards to make it 2-1.

Germany saw out the rest of the match comfortably, even hitting the post late in the game and navigating nine minutes of stoppage time with ease.

Sweden Match Looms Large

Despite the win, Germany will be disappointed with their finishing and now sit second in the group behind Sweden on goal difference. They’ll need to beat Sweden in their final group match to finish top, but are already guaranteed a spot in the knockout stage.

Sweden Dominate to Top the Group

Sweden took control of Group C with a commanding performance against Poland. They now sit atop the group on goal difference. The margin could have been even wider, with Blackstenius missing multiple chances to add to her tally.

Complete First Half Performance

Sweden nearly scored inside two minutes, when Asllani’s header hit the post. The right side pairing of Kaneryd and Lundkvist tore Poland apart, repeatedly creating chances.

Blackstenius finally broke through in the 28th minute, heading in from 7 yards after a slick move involving Angeldahl and Asllani. She had a nearly identical chance later but sent that effort over the bar.

Sweden Turn on the Style

Sweden didn’t ease up after halftime. Seven minutes in, a 1-2 between Lundkvist and Kaneryd led to a cross to the far post where Asllani nodded in the second goal.

The third came from a corner: Andersson’s delivery met Hurtig’s head perfectly, and her glancing finish sealed the 3-0 win. Sweden were in full control.

Pajor Kept Quiet

Poland’s star striker Ewa Pajor, so dangerous against Germany, barely touched the ball. Pressed relentlessly and starved of service, she was neutralized by Björn and Ilestedt. Poland resorted to long balls, but Sweden’s defenders won nearly everything in the air.

Knockout Picture for Group C

Sweden only need a draw against Germany to win the group and land in the easier side of the bracket. Denmark and Poland are both out, but Poland still haven’t scored in the tournament and will be desperate to find the net before bowing out.
