Luis Enrique identifies a back-to-back Champions League victory as PSG’s ‘goal’ this season

Luis Enrique has identified winning a second consecutive Champions League title as PSG‘s “goal” this season.

Paris Saint-Germain, which recently won the European Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur (2-2, 4-3 a.e.t.), had a historic 2024-25 season. In addition to extending its record number of French league titles (13), French Cup successes (16) and Trophée des Champions wins (13), the Parisian club overcame all obstacles to claim the European title it had been chasing for many years.

“The prevailing feeling is that we are continuing to make history; that has been the primary objective since day one,” Enrique said at a press conference before his team’s trip to Nantes on Sunday.

“It’s a special moment because it’s difficult to see a team win the Champions League twice in a row. That’s our goal. We’re very ambitious. We know how difficult this goal is, but it’s normal to have this mentality; it depends on us, on our level. And I think it’s a very fun goal.”

Thanks to their crushing victory over Inter Milan (5-0), PSG became only the second French club to win the Champions League, following in the footsteps of OM, who defeated AC Milan (1-0) in 1993.

If Paris Saint-Germain were to win the competition for the second time in a row, they would join the exclusive circle of clubs that have achieved this feat. This select group currently includes Real Madrid (1956-1960, 2016-2018), AC Milan (1989-1990), Bayern Munich (1974-1976), Liverpool (1977-1978), Ajax (1971-1973), Inter Milan (1964-1965), Benfica (1961-1962) and Nottingham Forest (1979-1980).

“The hardest thing is to remain unpredictable for our opponents, and to do that we have to look for new things,” Enrique admitted.

“If you want to change something, you have to change either the players or the tactics… We are convinced that this will be important. After winning, you have to try to improve, to step outside your comfort zone.”
