OGC Nice have confirmed the arrival of French forward Elye Wahi on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 22-year-old has signed until the end of the season in a deal that does not include an option to buy.
Transferred to Germany from Olympique de Marseille for €25 million a year ago, Wahi never really managed to establish himself over the Rhine, making only four starts in 25 appearances. With Frankfurt, the former Montpellier player has only been able to net one goal, against FV Engers 07 in the first round of the German Cup. An uncomfortable situation for Wahi, whose difficult relationship with manager Dino Toppmoller hasn’t helped matters.
At Nice, working under Claude Puel, who was recently appointed head coach of the professional team following the departure of Franck Haise, Wahi will attempt to relaunch his career in a league he knows well.
“I am very happy to be joining OGC Nice. It is a historic club with passionate supporters. I felt real confidence from the coach and the management. I am here to work hard, help the team and give my all in every match,” said Wahi.
First appearing in Ligue 1 in December 2020, the French Under-21 international has played 125 matches, scoring 44 goals and providing 13 assists.
