Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzić has emerged as a surprise contender for the Rangers managerial position, as speculation intensifies around the club’s future leadership. With an incoming ownership group reportedly linked to the San Francisco 49ers and Kevin Thelwell set to take over as Sporting Director, sources suggest the new hierarchy may be targeting their own candidate to lead the team forward.
Bookmakers React as Terzić Enters the Frame for Rangers
Bookmakers recently cut odds on high-profile names such as José Mourinho and former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, but Terzić has now entered the conversation, with fans and insiders pointing to growing rumours across club forums and betting markets.
Terzić’s Coaching Credentials
Terzić, 41, boasts a strong coaching pedigree. After an unremarkable playing career, he transitioned into a scouting role at Dortmund under Jürgen Klopp in 2010, later serving as assistant to Slaven Bilić at Beşiktaş and West Ham United before returning to Dortmund to assist Lucien Favre before stepping in as interim manager in 2020.
Trophy Success and Dortmund Legacy
During that spell, he led Dortmund to a DFB-Pokal title with a convincing 4–1 win over RB Leipzig.
Though not retained as head coach initially, he returned to the role in 2022, narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga title and guiding Dortmund to a Champions League final in 2024. He left the club with a nearly 60%-win rate and has been out of management since.
Odds Narrow as Speculation Grows
Terzić is now listed at 10/1 to take over at Ibrox—matching the odds of incumbent interim manager Barry Ferguson—while Steven Gerrard remains the bookmakers’ favourite.
However, the continual shortening of Terzić’s odds could indicate preliminary talks behind the scenes.
A New Era Approaching for Rangers?
With Rangers now out of European competition following their Europa League exit to Athletic Bilbao, and their domestic hopes also dashed, preparations for a new era are expected to accelerate.
Should the new leadership group succeed in landing Terzić, it would mark a major statement of intent and a bold shift in direction at Ibrox.
