Barcelona have unveiled Marcus Rashford officially as their newest arrival on loan from Manchester United.
The deal involves a loan for the 2025/26 season with an option to buy for the England international for around £26 million next Summer.
There are some question marks surrounding Barcelona’s ability to register Rashford in time for the upcoming season. Currently, they are not compliant with La Liga financial rules and therefore must generate more revenue before the deadline in August.
Rashford made his debut for Manchester United in 2015 as an academy graduate, but has seen his playing time cut due to differences with Ruben Amorim. The forward went on loan to Aston Villa for the second-half of the 2024/25 season, but had made his interest in Barcelona clear as early as January 2025.
Barcelona are hoping this move pays off as their frontline requires strengthening, and their top targets in the transfer market, Luis Diaz and Nico Williams, did not materialise. Nico Williams actually declined to sign a contract with Barcelona due to concerns over registration problems. Last Winter, Barcelona required the Spanish government to intervene to allow them to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Manchester United will likely be relieved to get Rashford’s £325,000-per-week wages off their books and will hope Barcelona exercise the purchase option to recoup some of the approximately €150 million spent on transfers this summer.
