Liverpool confirmed the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth £79 million.
This is the newest signing of Arne Slot’s summer spending spree. Eintracht Frankfurt originally turned Liverpool’s first bid down. The 23-year-old striker had already agreed contract terms with Liverpool and made it known to his club’s management that Liverpool was where he wanted to be.
The Frenchman scored 15 goals and assisted 8 more during his 33 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last season. After the departure of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in January, it was Ekitike’s chance to step up and become the main goalscoring threat for his club.
Liverpool have already plundered the Bundesliga for its top talent during this transfer window with the signing of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Now adding another top talent to their stacked frontline.
Arne Slot will no doubt be excited to add Ekitike to the Liverpool ranks as they prepare to defend their Premier League title and chase European silverware next season.
