Freshly crowned German champion with Bayern Munich, Eric Dier, whose contract expires on 30 June, has officially signed for AS Monaco, the Principality club has announced. After spending a year and a half in the Bundesliga, the Cheltenham native has signed a three-season deal with the club of the Rocher.
A major boost for Adi Hutter, whose side are already assured of Champions League football next season following last week’s 2-0 win over Olympique Lyonnais. The 31-year-old versatile and experienced English midfielder is coming off the back of a two-speed campaign with the Rekordmeister, where he was a valuable asset in the second half of the season.
An Eventful Year and a Half for Dier
However, the last few months have not necessarily been the easiest in the career of the Three Lions international (49 caps). Loaned out to Bayern by Spurs, where he spent ten years defending their colours, in January 2024, Dier was initially not considered Vincent Kompany’s first choice for the 2024-25 season.
But Dayot Upamecano suffered a knee injury, and the former Sporting CP player took advantage of the situation to prove his worth at the heart of the Bavarian defence. A familiar position, one that he had already occupied under Thomas Tuchel during the 2023-24 season.
