AJ Auxerre have confirmed the arrival of Bournemouth’s Romain Faivre on loan until the end of the season, with no option to buy. Out on loan at Al-Taawoun, third in the Saudi Pro League, since September, the 27-year-old attacking midfielder has played five games and scored one goal for the Buraidah-based club.
In Ligue 1, where he accumulated 135 appearances (29 goals, 17 assists) during his spells at Lorient, Brest, Lyon, and Monaco, Faivre is returning to a league he knows well and will attempt to help Auxerre, 17th in the table with 12 points after 17 games, stay in the top flight.
The native of Asnieres, in the Paris region, who is under contract with the Cherries until 2028, will wear the number 28.
Faivre nearly joined another Ligue 1 club
Although he has signed with Auxerre, Faivre almost took a different path, as he was close to signing with Le Havre, ranked 13th in Ligue 1, just a few days ago. However, the more advantageous salary conditions offered by AJA ultimately convinced him to change his mind at the last minute.
Much to the delight of Christophe Pelissier, his new coach.
“He’s exactly the kind of player I wanted, namely an experienced player,” said the latter at a press conference. “He needs to get back on track. He has what it takes to perform in Ligue 1. He ticks all the boxes. But if he’s in this position despite his qualities, it’s because he hasn’t done certain things. It’s up to him to get his career back on track, and he’s aware of that.”
