Olympique de Marseille have made the return of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang official.
The Gabon striker, who has been on a free since breaking his contract with Al-Qadsiah a few days ago, is set to return to the French giants a year after leaving them. A lovely gift, in the shape of a proposed two-season contract, for the player who recently celebrated his 36th birthday. Having attracted interest from a number of clubs, most notably Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, Aubameyang was quickly won over by Roberto De Zerbi’s plans for the Olympique.
At OM, the former Arsenal player will have the opportunity to return to the Champions League, which he has not played in since 2022, and to rediscover a familiar environment. During his first spell at the club, in the 2023-24 season, the right- footed forward wasted no time in winning over the Vélodrome, not least because of his impressive statistics. Scoring 30 times (including 10 in the Europa League, making him the competition’s top scorer) in 51 appearances, Aubameyang also set himself apart with 11 assists.
And although Marseille’s attacking line has been strengthened since his departure, there is no doubt that the 77-time Gabon international (31 goals) will play a major role in OM’s pursuit of their objectives.
