Kylian Mbappe has filed a complaint against PSG for moral harassment and attempted extortion of signature.
According to Agence France-Presse, the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation on Tuesday. Two examining magistrates will now conduct an investigation to establish the legitimacy of the Real Madrid striker’s accusations.
The complaint, submitted on May 16, follows the Frenchman’s exclusion in the club’s “loft” — a practice of sidelining players already singled out on numerous occasions — in the summer of 2023. At that time, the Frenchman did not wish to activate the option in his contract to extend his stay for a further season.
Deprived of a summer tour of Japan, Mbappe eventually returned to Luis Enrique’s squad a few weeks later, before finally leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Another episode in the war opposing Mbappe and PSG
This is by no means the first time that Mbappe intends to seek justice since leaving the Parisian club.
Indeed, the two parties have been at loggerheads over a financial dispute for several months now. In this case, PSG’s all-time top scorer is demanding payment of the last three months’ salary under his contract, as well as signing and ethics bonuses. In all, he is claiming a total of €55m, which he was able to withdraw from the club’s accounts by means of a precautionary attachment order.
This decision lapsed a few weeks later, when the sentence enforcement judge of the Paris Court of First Instance ordered that “the seizures be lifted”. A verdict that vindicated the club’s lawyers, who considered that the 2018 world champion had “failed to provide sufficient proof of an appearance of debt and to demonstrate any threat to recovery”.
The case is nevertheless far from over, and is now expected to continue before the Conseil des prud’hommes, whose purpose is to settle any individual dispute between an employer and his employee.
