Gianluigi Donnarumma has announced the ending of his time with Paris Saint-Germain.
This comes just hours after Luis Enrique decided to leave him out of the Parisian squad that flew to Udine to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the European Super Cup.
“From my very first day here, I gave my all – both on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend Paris Saint-Germain’s goal. Unfortunately, someone decided that I could no longer be part of the group or contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and bitter,” explained the Italian international.
Before thanking the Parisian supporters: “I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it.”
A homage that the 26-year-old player wanted to conclude with a final tribute to his teammates, ‘his second family’, recalling ‘every battle, every smile and all the moments shared’.
Joining the Parisian club in the summer of 2021, the Castellammare di Stabia native has made 161 appearances and recorded 56 clean sheets. A regular starter last season, he played a total of 47 matches and played a crucial role in winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and, most importantly, the club’s first ever Champions League title.
But despite his crucial role in the Rouge et Bleu’s journey in the showpiece competition, Enrique has decided to recruit Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, whom he considers to be closer to the profile he is looking for.
