Marseille forward Jonathan Rowe admitted that his loan stint in the French Ligue 1 has been challenging but he has embraced it with hardwork in training.
The 21-year-old English star who is loan from Championship club Norwich City, scored his third Ligue 1 goal of the season after coming off the bench against Montpellier on Saturday.
Rowe has been limited to a substitute role by Roberto Di Zerbi this season, making just four starts in his 24 league appearances but he has embraced the challenge to get better.
When asked about by about how he felt after ending his 18-game goal drought since October, Rowe told Sports Talk United: “It is a big challenge and expectation to perform but I’ve embraced it. It’s been difficult.
“I’ve been fighting for the starting XI a lot of times and it affected me a bit. I think everyone could see that but I carried on going, you know, even though I was down sometimes but I had to look at the bigger picture, which is that collectively as a team we have a goal.
“We have an objective and I got to do as much as I can to help the team’s objective.”
Rowe was introduced as a substitute for Algerian striker Amine Gouiri in the 65th minute and he did not take long to make an impact by scoring Marseille’s fourth goal in the 74th minute.
The 2024 EFL Championship Young Player of the Year nominee stated that his energy is crucial to push Marseille to victory at this crucial stage of the season.
Rowe continued: “To be honest, we just need a little bit more intensity. Sometimes games like that can get a bit tough physically, so I’ve got to bring my energy and I’m still young.
“I’ve got to bring as much energy as I can and obviously it can affect and influence the place around me when they’re tired, they can see that I’m working hard, and they can push even more and not get complacent.”
Rowe will look to build on his third goal of the season when Marseille welcome Brest to the Orange Velodrome for their next Ligue 1 match on April 27.
With just a point above third-placed Monaco, the Olympians are aiming to secure a second-place finish in the Ligue 1 table and automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
