Eintracht Frankfurt have got off to a brilliant start in the Bundesliga this season. Part of their success has to be attributed to their star midfielder Can Uzun.
Born on 11 November 2005, this 19-year-old Turkish international was born in Regensburg, in the southeast of Germany.
This season, Uzun has impressed both Bundesliga and international viewers with his performances thus far. Let’s take a look at his career before Frankfurt, and how he’s performing at Frankfurt now.
Sports Talk United mentioned Can Uzun in our “10 Bundesliga players to watch in 2025–26”.
Can Uzun’s career so far
Can Uzun joined FC Nurnberg in 2019. At first, he played for their U17 squad. Within two years he was the second-best top scorer in the entire division. His great performances did not go unnoticed, and in 2022 he was offered a professional contract with the club and began playing for the U19 team as a regular starter.
Uzun was soon promoted to the senior squad for the 2023–24 season, where he quickly broke two records. He scored two goals to draw against Hannover in the second game of the season, becoming Nurnberg’s youngest ever goalscorer at 17 years 268 days old. Six days later in the first round of the DFB Pokal, he scored a hat-trick and assisted one goal in Nurnberg’s 9-1 win over amateur side Oberneuland, becoming the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the competition. He finished the 2023–24 2. Bundesliga season having scored 16 goals and assisting 2.
He then joined Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported €15 million. His initial arrival at the club was frustrating for him, receiving limited playing time, but he managed to score 5 goals (4 Bundesliga, 1 Europa League) and assisting 2.
Can Uzun’s performance at Frankfurt
So far this season, Uzun has scored 5 goals and assisted 3 in the Bundesliga, and scored 1 goal in Frankfurt’s 5–1 demolition of Galatasaray, his Champions League debut. With five games played this season he has already surpassed his goal tally of 4 from last year. If this trend continues he could be in for a huge year.
Uzun scored in Eintracht Frankfurt’s first six games of the season in all competitions, only failing to score in their last two. He made history in doing so, becoming the first teenager to score in the first four Bundesliga games of the season.
So far this season he has scored a goal every 86 minutes of playing time, and has featured in the Bundesliga Team of the Week three times.
Despite their stellar start to the season, Frankfurt have fallen off slightly, losing to Leverkusen, Union Berlin and most recently Bayern.
They also suffered a 5-1 defeat away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
What is Can Uzun’s position and style of play?
Can Uzun wears the number 42, and plays in the midfield. Often taking the number 10 role just behind Frankfurt’s striker. He is capable of playing with both feet, and sometimes starts in the left-mid position.
He is a classic shadow striker, roaming the pitch to find space and deliver brilliant assists, or just score himself.
It becomes increasingly clear when watching Uzun that he is hungry to succeed. His workrate proves that.

With the international break now upon us, it’s unclear how Frankfurt will perform when they return to club football next weekend. There’s one thing to be sure of, Can Uzun will feature heavily in any successes that they enjoy.
